NASCO’s Data Has An Address Change

With more than 3,500 combined people hours, teams across NASCO and the IBM/Kyndryl team collaborated to migrate our Data Center to IBM Research Triangle Park (RTP) in Raleigh, North Carolina. According to Leo Ladaga, “This migration was challenging because most migrations are performed in phases, but because NASCO’s complex environment and the number of plan applications, this migration had to be done in one big bang.” This migration required replicating a tremendous amount (Petabytes) of data from Lexington to RTP, while at the same time replicating the data to our backup environment in Boulder, Colorado. After a year of extensive planning with the NASCO and IBM/Kyndryl team, the complex migration was completed in less than 24-hours without impact to our customers.

The Research Triangle Park migration to the Z-cloud shared platform offers better hardware, reduced operating costs, and a faster infrastructure. Further proof of success: A plan CIO asked when the migration would be taking place. NASCO was able to report that the migration had already happened.
